Prep #2-Creating Travel Pages

 Creating Travel Pages

In order to be organized and prepared for a trip, it is helpful to write out a planwhich will help you better manage your travel and give you an idea of what your trip will be like.

After finding reliable sources that help guide you through your trip(how to find reliable sources are mentioned here.) It is easier to remember everything and anything, by writing what you learned things down. You have to think about it like a grocery list. You will forget everything you need to buy at the supermarket,  unless you have a grocery list. Or if there are important things you need to remember to do, a to-do list is a smart way to go. For a trip, you need Travel Pages. Most of your success will have to come from your own, personal notes.

What I suggest, for those who want to be really organized, you should make each of the following:

  • An Itinerary
  • A Price List
  • A Chart of Accommodation
  • An Information Sheet
  • Travel Notes
  • A Packing List
You do not have to use all of these travel pages for your own personal travel. However, I suggest, the longer your trip is, the more helpful if will be to write down and use these lists and charts.
The Itinerary-They do not have to be so stiff, like a "concrete schedule". My idea of an itinerary is something loose,  which you can move around with some ease. Because, let's face it, one day you may feel lazy and want to walk around the city, or even, bad weather can ruin your plans. You want to be prepare for any schedule conflict.

The Price List-It is really easy to run out of money without a plan, especially in a new place. I know, put 50 dollars in my pocket, and it is already gone the next day(I don't know how). Most of us will be on a  travel budget, so figuring out how much money you will need for public transportation, food, accommodation, museums, souvenirs, etc. is a must. *You can find out prices to museums, sights and public transportation Online or in Travel Guides.

The Chart of Accommodation- (Use this if you are traveling to more than one place on your vacation). The chart should have where you are staying, price, and who you are staying it with.  it will always be cheaper to stay over at someone's house. (It may be time to befriend an old colleague who lives overseas who you haven't talked to in awhile). There are also websites like coachsurfing.org, which you can stay a strangers houses for free. it is a pretty safe sight, but it is always at your own risk though.

The Information Sheet-Information Sheet will contain information you think is important to know for your trip. This can include i.e. phone numbers of nearby friends and family, emergency numbers, addresses to hospitals, etc. Your information sheet can also contain basic information important to know in case of an emergency. Things will happen, so it is always best to be prepare. Along with emergency numbers and addresses to hospitals, I also suggest that it can be helpful to have essential phrases on the info. sheet,  that are in the language of the country you visit. You want to make sure people understand exactly what you mean, in a tight situation.

The Travel Notes-Your Travel Notes will contain anything else you want to know and remember. Personal Information you want to know, that doesn't fit into the categories above. You may even want to put brief histories you learn about the places you will visit (like the history of a famous painting), or you may want to record local, extra things to do in the area, places to eat.
I like to put in my travel notes the town I am staying at (ex. Rome), local supermarkets and eats(ex. Risi e Alda Restaurant), extra things to do(ex. Botanical Gardens), nightlife (ex. The Artist Club), entertainment (ex. La Cinema), etc.

The Packing List-It is good to do ahead of time, because you may remember one more thing you alsmot forgot to bring, and add it to the list so that over time, you recorded all the personal things you needed that may not be mentioned on any other generic packing list.

Overall, These pages mentioned above will help you structure and help you organize a trip. These documents do not have to extensively long and are really not all that hard to do. Instead, they are simple charts and notes which can help you get into better control of planning your trip.

I will post my own examples in the hyperlinks below (which i used for my own Classical Trip). These may benefit you as well, and you can decide which ones will be most helpful for you. These can be utilize for any trip, anywhere, and can really help you better plan out a vacation.
